Airbus A320 Prestige asked:

Where else (other than under the wings and at the back such as learjets) can engines be placed on airliners or private jets?

The new HondaJet has an above wing engine placement.
This arrangment was seen before by a aircraft manufactured in Switzerland.

A German WW2 design had the engines on the front of the fusilage.

On airliners or private jets, noise is a concern, so the engines would be out on the wings, or way back in the rear of the fuselage. There really isn’t too many other places they can go. They pretty much have to go at or near the center of gravity for proper flight or they’ll generate torque which is bad for the fuselage’s longevity.

Hondajet is probably the most “novel” of recent jets, as it’s ABOVE the low-wing with an upward pylon mounting. But it wasn’t the first with that config.

“Learjets”, which I fly along with other makes, have tail-mounted engines. I do not consider the Lear to be long-range, except for the not yet in production Lear 85. The Falcon 50 series and the Falcon 900 series have two tail-mounted engines and a fuselage mounted engine—a 3 engine configuration. As for long range, other than the BBJ (bizjet version of 737-700), they’re all tail-mounted, except for the Falcons already mentioned.
