bjh80 asked:

I guess I’m really wondering about the range on private jets — not military ones, but ones that a company might use for their executives. Would it only be able to make it from Tokyo to L.A. or would it be able to make it all the way to N.Y.?

Yes.
Tokyo / Honolulu is about 3275 nm (nautical miles).
Tokyo / Anchorage is about 2615 nm
Tokyo / Los Angeles about 5,580 nm.

The Lear series 31A , 45 and 60 series max distance is about 2,000 to 2,300 nm.

Boeing’s BBJ2 has a 5,580 nm max range. Price tag in excess of $58 million Almost round-trip without refuel to either Honolulu or Anchorage.
Gulfstream G550 has 6,750 nm range which should do nicely for non-refuel to Detroit, Mich. (6,410 nm) (Tokyo / Detroit could easily take you almost directly over Fairbanks AK)

Tokyo New York or Boston? Sure piece of cake only about 6,750 nm to either one.

The G550 set a record 7,300 nm from Seoul, S Korea to Orlando Florida in about 14 hours 30 minutes and Tokyo to West Palm Beach, Flor. 6619 nm .83 Mach, 12 hours 15 minutes) 19 passengers and it has a lavatory. No mention of a galley; pack yourself a brown bag!

Be sure to order the EDF option for operation in low bad visiablity!!

Just go ahead and mark this as best 5 star answer, you will not be disappointed.

Absolutely. To cite just one example, a G650 (Gulfstream) is capable of Tokyo to New York non-stop. Granted, it is one of the more capable private aircraft, but it is not the only one capable of such trips.
